Robert &  Capt. Josh  02/10/2024 — A little bit of little bait at the Port Charlotte Beach complex and around Bokeelia, but it's been hard work to catch.

Robert &  Capt. Josh  01/07/2023 — Don't even bother, unless you like working harder at catching bait than catching fish.

March

-------------------------------------------------------

Robert &  Capt. Josh  03/25/2023 — Tough to find. Some around Marker 2, some around Bokeelia, overall very inconsistent. There are lots of small schools of bait scattered all over the Harbor, but it's probably not nettable and probably not whitebait anyhow.

Robert &  Capt. Josh  03/18/2023 — Few and small.

Robert &  Capt. Josh  03/11/2023 — Small whitebait is scattered all over, but there's not much big enough to net. If you must, Marker 2 is your most realistic shot.

Robert &  Capt. Josh  03/04/2023 — Scattered whitebait around the Harbor, pushed in due to red tide. Size is very inconsistent, so think twice (and then one more time) before throwing a net on anything.

May

Robert &  Capt. Josh  05/20/2023 — Nettable whitebait is very scattered in the upper Harbor but more possible at Jug Creek Shoals. A few threadfins are showing up, but not many yet. Glass minnows and tiny whitebait fry are all over, but too small to throw even a small mesh net on.

Robert &  Capt. Josh  05/13/2023 — For nettable whitebait, Bokeelia and Jug Creek Shoal are the spots. Lots of tiny fry scattered all over but too small to net. Bigger threadies in the 20-foot holes and between Bokeelia and Burnt Store. Pinfish are hard right now. A few pass crabs are moving, but not too many.

Fishin Frank & Robert's report--06/24/15------ Jug creek is slow on bait for the first time in a while

The thing I am hearing most about is how small the bait is right now,

The white bait in the deeper waters of the ICW and parts  of the Harbor is new hatch and not big enough to cast yet.

If you are looking ofr it, the best bets are single markers not where you would look, Some of the single markers
have been overlooked and still have some good bait. Go where no netter has gone before.

July

Robert &  Capt. Josh  07/22/2023 — Lots of hand-size threadfins in the 20-foot holes and scattered around the Harbor. Some whitebait reports around Placida and just off the beaches, with some bait left dead on the beaches for no good reason, so don't be that guy. Pinfish are hard to find. Some crabs have been flushing at night but not many.

Robert &  Capt. Josh  07/15/2023 — Lots of small glass minnows and large threadfins (with butterfish mixed in) in schools all over the Harbor. Leatherjackets (skipjacks) have also been schooling. Whitebait have been scarce. Jug Creek Shoals might be your best bet.

Robert &  Capt. Josh  07/01/2023 — Thread herring are scattered over the whole Harbor. Don't try to crowd a livewell or your threadies will die. There are also lots of butterfish (Atlantic bumper) mixed in. Few pinfish and whitebait has been reported caught this week. There are whiting in the surf.

Robert &  Capt. Josh  07/30/2022 — Whitebait are on Jug Creek Shoal and around Three Sisters and Devilfish. Tarpon-size threadies are scattered from the passes to Marker 1. Teeny-tiny bait that no one should even bother with in Bull and Turtle bays. Pinfish along the ICW in Pine Island Sound.

Fishin Frank & Robert's report--07/28/15---- White biat is hard to find ,
Just north of Pirate harbor on the bar,Some of the lower markers in the Harbor like marker #5 or the ones on the way to the Passes
have been holding some biatYour chances get mush better on the last half of the in-coming tide

Fishin Frank & Robert's report--07/15/15------ Good luck but the white bait is starting to move in again
the lst few days there has been more repts of bait than ove the last couple of weeks,
Some big schools of tiny white bait along the west side, just north of cape haze,
The markers in the Harbor have bait but not steady, you are going to have to work for it,

The east side and Jug creek have had bait show up, just north of Pirate Harbor and on the bar at Jug creek
the big problem is find it larger enough to cast, So take a casting bobber with you, and leave a little air inside
so it will float just a bit, the other option is to use a rock port rattler jig head and hook the bait through
the back so it will make a fuss and disturb the sand letting the red fish know it is there

Fishin Frank & Robert's report--07/06/15-----The biat is this years hatch really small
The is Bait just north of Pirate Harbor nad there is a big school just to the north of cape Haze
bot of these schools are small. BIat is hard to find. The Thread fins in the harbor are deep for the most part
hard to see, you need to know what they look like on our bottom machine to find bait

Fishin Frank & Robert   07/29/16-----  Bokeelia has some good size bait and pins

Placida has smaller bait. Devil fish is pin fish.

June

Fishin Frank & Robert's report--06/24/15------ Jug creek is slow on bait for the first time in a while

The thing I am hearing most about is how small the bait is right now,

The white bait in the deeper waters of the ICW and parts  of the Harbor is new hatch and not big enough to cast yet.

If you are looking ofr it, the best bets are single markers not where you would look, Some of the single markers
have been overlooked and still have some good bait. Go where no netter has gone before.

Fishin Frank & Robert's report--06/15/15------Some thread fin near the 41 bridge
and marker 1 & 2 are hit or miss,
The flats by Pirate harbor are agin hit or miss but have some bait,
Near jug creek shaols the bait is steady,, mixed sizes have your 1/4 inch mesh
near Devil fish the bait is also steady but not as big as it was.
Dog island and the area around placidda has quite a bit of bait but it has been
doing a Harry houdini and one day is here and lookaround and it;s gone.

Out along the beaches the bait is scatterd keep your eyes out as it may be
10 ffeet from land or out 2 miles.

Cigar minnow ands Sardine are out from the beaches you can see the schools
hard to catch as they run to deeper water, so drag out the sabiki Rods

August

another place is on the beaches.
