Robert & Capt. Josh 10/14/2023 — Nothing, zero, nada.
Robert & Capt. Josh 10/07/2023 — A few snook around the creek, but lots of Mayan cichlids and tilapia.
Capt. Josh & Fishin' Frank 10/03/23 — Some snook, not huge numbers but enough to play with. Dock fishing is worthwhile, so are mangroves. Some smaller redfish up here too. Gangs of juvenile tarpon scattered throughout.
------------------------------------
Robert & Capt. Josh 10/29/22 — Few people are on the water, so full a place-by-place report doesn't make sense right now. Here's what we have:
The Peace River has dropped down to about 7 feet, which is below flood stage. The water will be dark for a while but there should be a clearing trend over the long term. Baitfish (glass minnows and whitebait) showing up all over the Harbor, but the east side has been best. We have reports of schoolie trout from Ponce de Leon Park, Bull and Turtle bays, and Pine Island Sound. Redfish have been reported from Live Oak Point Park. The best overall reports have been from the Intracoastal area. Snook, redfish, trout, occasional pompano, juvenile tarpon. Boca Grande is still closed for land-based anglers, but the Placida pier has had Spanish mackerel, snapper, sheepshead, snook and others. The Ainger Pier in Englewood has had similar fish, and there's some good surf fishing along Manasota Key. There is some red tide out there, so if you feel a tickle move down a ways. There are many, many reports of floating or submerged debris all over the place, so remain cautious while boating in dark water. Offshore, we have had mixed reports. One angler can't catch anything but bait, another reports multiple legal-size red grouper on the same spot. Many bottom structures have been covered with sand; others have been uncovered. We have not heard of stone crab traps out in the Gulf, so that may make targeting kingfish and tripletail challenging. However, the water temp has come down to the mid 70s, so mackerel and kings may be moving thru. For the most up-to-date reports, call the shop at 941-625-3888.

Robert & Capt. Josh 11/25/2023 — More and more snook, but still mostly small. Redfish from 14 to 18 inches are relatively abundant, plus a couple in the low end of the slot. Please use inline circle hooks so we can release healthy fish. Juvenile tarpon are up around the creek. The water is getting clearer and we're seeing lots of Mayan cichlids around the docks.
Robert & Capt. Josh 11/18/2023 — A lot of little snook. Some undersize redfish and a few on the low end of the slot. Some Mayan cichlids. A few juvenile tarpon popping up to frustrate people.
Robert & Capt. Josh 11/11/2023 — A few small redfish and a couple slots have been under the docks, especially on the Punta Gorda side. Some small snook are heading up toward Shell Creek. Most of the docks up here have some mangrove snapper, sand brim and Mayan cichlids.
Robert & Capt. Josh 11/05/2023 — No reports.
------------------------------------
Robert & Capt. Josh 11/12/22 — Few people are on the water, so full a place-by-place report doesn't make sense right now. Here's what we have:
River mouths, canals and upper Harbor (north of Marker 1): PGI and Port Charlotte canals have been producing snook and a few juvie tarpon. Sand bream have been eating in Port Charlotte. Big jacks 10 to 15 pounds have been in PGI hitting topwaters. Black drum have been spotted in PGI but not many have been hooked. We expect them to feed better over the next week or so. Some funky smells in the canals, but plenty of fish around and they seem to be mostly hungry. A few fish have been caught around the bridges and piers, but it's mostly been quiet. The river mouths are quiet as well.
Charlotte Harbor (Marker 1 south to Pine Island Sound, east of Cape Haze): Before Tropical Storm Nicole, there were lots of tarpon in the Harbor from the upper 20-foot hole to Cape Haze. There were also black drum hanging out underneath them. We expect the tarpon are probably back, but recent reports have been hard to get. Catfish and ladyfish are both working well. The east wall is holding some ladyfish and Spanish mackerel off the bar, and there are bonnethead and blacktip sharks with them. A lot of snook and lower slot redfish around the bushes. A few pompano were reported south of Pirate Harbor.
Gasparilla Sound, Intracoastal, passes and beaches: Bull and Turtle bays have been great, with plentiful snook, redfish, trout and ladyfish, plus a few sheepshead and Spanish mackerel. A lot of dead fish reported from the ICW area, but most appear to be well decomposed and not fresh. If you start to feel red tide effects (watery eyes, tickle in the throat), be ready to move. It's been patchy, so you should be able to find another spot easily. Random Spanish mackerel throughout the area. A few tarpon have wandered through Boca Grande Pass, but don't expect them.
Offshore: Not much. Spanish mackerel are around, and kingfish have been reported from St. Pete to Venice. Very few anglers have been bottom fishing. Lane snapper will be closed starting Nov. 15 in federal waters.

Robert & Capt. Josh 12/30/2023 — Still a bit slow, but there are a few small snook and a handful of redfish under docks and in deeper cuts. Rolling juvenile tarpon have been seen but are hard to catch. Small mangrove snapper are around the Harbour Heights docks.
Robert & Capt. Josh 12/16/2023 — From Harbor Heights to 761, there are short redfish and smallish snook. Shrimp are doing most of the catching.
Robert & Capt. Josh 12/09/2023 — Redfish are showing in better numbers. They're in 4 to 6 feet in deeper bends and cuts; there are also smaller ones under the docks. Smaller snook are under the docks from Harbor Heights up to the Nav-A-Gator. Mayan cichlids, mangrove snapper and sand bream are mostly around Shell Creek up to the dam.
Robert & Capt. Josh 12/02/2023 — Still not great, but getting better. There are more snook after last week's cold front, and more redfish (mostly smaller). Some juvenile tarpon are rolling also. Mayan cichlids, tilapia, a few mangrove snapper and a few sand bream are around the docks.
