This page is temporary to introduce us to you.
Fishin Franks is a customer service  based business.

at this time there are about 1000 items on line, for sale,
and growing 100 plus items a week.
These are regular stock items for us. We have been
selling Fishin tackle for over 25 years in the same location.

On-line store

The on-line store is growing. We add about 100 new products each week.
when you place an order you will not be billed until the item is shipped,
We will check all sources to find the lowest shipping cost available.
Often if you buy certain items, or enough items there will be no shipping cost.
But this is a order, by order, situation.
If an item is, "temporary out of stock",  you will be called, or e-mailed, your choice.

If you have questions, about how well a product will work for what you want to do or catch.

Let me know how you like the site and thanks for doing business with us.

Fishin Frank.

This is an introduction to Cayle our new member of the pirate Crew,
whom I have known, and has been a trusted friend since he came to town.

I should probably introduce myself at this point. My name is Cayle and I’m working with Frank on the e-store. I’m also giving him a hand with backend of the forum and around the shop when I’m needed. I moved to Port Charlotte in Dec. of 1999 after 8 years in the Marine Corps. I’ve always been into computers since my father brought home a Commodore 64 when I was a kid. I decided to make computers my living before getting out of the service because there isn’t a big job market for amphibious assault vehicle drivers outside of the Marines…

I was born and raised in, on and under the reservoir of one of the largest dams east of the Mississippi. I grew up fishing the reservoir and surrounding trout streams and even Lakes Erie and Ontario for salmon and walleye. I spent 3 years fishing the coastal and blue waters of Southern California and my travels in the Marines have given me the opportunity to fish a little bit all over the world.

I started working here in Port Charlotte in a local computer store then went to the State Attorney’s Office for 5 and half years and then to a local law firm for 3 and a half years. And now I’m venturing into the great unknown on my own with Kingslayer Designs.

When I’m not working you can either find me in the woods hunting, at the range shooting or in my kayak fishing.

I’m also long-winded so here goes…

Thank you for your compliments on the site. The e-store is an iceberg. What you see above the surface is only 10%. The meat and gravy of the site is the 90% under the surface you don’t see and that is all the work and data that is entered behind the scenes to make this work. And it’s A LOT of data. I’ve been plugging away at this thing for a week and a half and as you can see, we’ve only covered a few brands of spinning reels. Most of you are familiar with the bait shop and the shear amount of merchandise Frank carries. It’s all going in the e-store. You do the math.

I see a couple common denominators in most of the replies in this thread.

1. You like the easy navigation of the site.
2. You want to know what to fish with.
3. You want the Fishin’ Frank’s service you’ve grown accustomed to in the bait shop.

I’ll touch on the navigation first.

Making the site easy to navigate is something that is personal to me. I hate to shop. Online, offline, doesn’t matter. I hate it. It’s genetic, I can’t help it. I treat shopping like a military assault. Get in, get out, do as much damage as possible in as little time as possible. I despise Wal-Mart. It’s the bane of my very existence. Why? Because they’re all different. It’s just a big square building, they’re all stocked with the exact same things, yet every one is laid out different. It’s counter-productive to my shopping tactics. I don’t want to have to carry a GPS just to find a loaf of bread because this Wal-Mart is laid out different than the other 6 and I don’t want an online store to be just as difficult.

Having a site that is neat and presentable is not only great for you guys to find what you want, it’s also easier for us to maintain, troubleshoot if there is a problem, upgrade if necessary, and have someone else step in if I’m hit by a bus. All of that comes back to you guys in the form of less downtime, not losing orders, better security and an all around better shopping experience.

Giving recommendations on what to fish with is a great idea too. But I don’t think the e-store is the place to do it. I think a section of “what’s hot” would be great, or a place to showcase new products that offer new technology, better design, or that reach out and grab you feel. Something like Penn’s new Conquer series of reels would be great for a section like that.

It’s just too hard to give local recommendations to a global market. There’s also the worry that all that extra information will kill the very neatness you’ve all complimented.

But there is a great avenue for local recommendations and that is here on this forum, Frank’s blog and Frank’s main website. It would be easy to create a section with links to those specific items in the store.

As far as the Fishin’ Frank’s service…I feel we’ve got that covered too. One thing that never ceases to amaze me is Frank’s dedication to his customers. The same follows through with all his employees. I see people leave the store with a smile and what they need to get the job done not what makes Frank the most money. I’m sure that will carry over to the e-store as best as we can make it.

Frank and I had an epiphany when we were playing around with the software we use to create the store. We were looking for ideas on the layout and checked out what a national chain-store did with their tackle. We were using the Rapala X-Rap Subwalk as our example because that’s what I happened to grab off the shelf to start building this thing. What we saw had us completely under whelmed to say the least.

That site had over 14 different models of X-Rap Subwalks and only 9 pictures of colors. Well how are you supposed to know what a Clown colored Subwalk looks like if it doesn’t have a picture? Does it have big shoes, a round red nose that honks, or how about a flower on it’s lapel that shoots water at you? You couldn’t tell. How in the world can you “match the hatch” when buying lures if you can’t even see the color of them? It’s ridiculous. So we created a page of Rapala X-Rap Subwalks that show a picture of each and every color that Rapala offers. Is it more work for us? Of course, but it’s something we couldn’t let slide. It wouldn’t be right.

We’re going to carry that idea throughout the store. We’re going to do our best to give you all the pertinent information of an item. Color, size, gear ratio, features, everything the manufacturer offers so you can see what you’re buying. You won’t have to guess if an Orange Gold Orange Subwalk is colored that way from front to back or top to bottom. You won’t have to go to Rapala’s website to find out.

And of course that service is going to continue throughout your order.

Please continue to check out the store as we add more products. Continue to give us your thoughts, opinion and recommendations. They’re always welcome and they help guide our hand while we continue to build the store.

Thanks,

CayleKingslayer
