IT is happening in Minnesota and it is happening here hot water does not hold oxygen and the fish are dying from it. The lack of wind slow moving or still water at the tide change, lots of algae buildup from the fertilizer run off is produceing slime algae or simple plant life off of the grass, The algae builds up and now with The Harbor being mostly fresh hot water if the wind dies, the decaying
algae uses up allof the oxygen in the water for about 10 minutes, As you know very few creatures can hold thier breath for that long so lots of dead marine life, Crabs, shrimp, fish, Ponce Park has a bunch of dead creatures/fish this morning.
The larger bays like Tampa the tides moves in across the flats sweeping clean, In Charlotte Harbor we do not have that huge sheet flow of tide movment,
THis is not gloom and doom it has been happing ever since I came to Florida, It is just happeing more often,
So if you are out today and see dead fish No there is no red tide, it is the summer heat.
